The Kid With a Bike

The Kid With a Bike (2011)

A powerful film from a great director. I was a bit skeptical because of the young actor, but I got fast attached to this interesting and sad story about a boy with a dad who doesn’t want to see him.

My rating: 9/10

The Future (2011)

What a weird film. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoy “Me and You and Everyone We Know”, because this is slower, less straight forward, less funnier and very confusing. I definitely have to watch it again some time to understand it better.

My rating: 7,5/10

My Devil’s Double (2011)

Great. 8,5/10

50/50 (2011)

Not so bad, but I don’t think I will watch it again.

My rating: 8/10

Recent movies watched

Am Ende Kommen Touristen (2007)

“A civil service worker befriends an elderly Holocaust survivor.” A bit boring, but okey.

My rating: 7/10

The Messenger (2009)

Actually not so bad. I enjoyed it.

My rating: 8/10

Terri (2011)

Good acting, funny, different.

My rating: 8/10

Another Earth (2011)

Dark, beautiful. – 9/10

Our Idiot Brother (2011)

I don’t understand why this movie has an average rating of 6,8 on IMDB. It is a predictable comedy with Paul Rudd, an actor I am starting to hate. His character has three annoying sisters who blame him for every bad thing that happens to them. The character Rudd is playing is – as the title says – dumb, but his dumbness is not believable to me.
The story had however a few good laughs and Steve Coogan made a great appearance.

My rating: 5/10

Renn, Wenn Du Kannst (2010)

German fine movie about three young people (I guess between the ages of 19-25) who meet one day: a bitter guy in a wheelchair, his new assistant worker and a cute girl who plays the cello.
As with many other fine German movies, this has great acting and script.
Maybe a bit too long.

My rating: 8/10

Four Films

Following (1998)

Christopher Nolan’s debut movie is a very twisting catching thriller. Shot in black and white. Low budget. Great thriller.

My rating 8,5/10

Gespenster (2005)

Gespenster means “ghost”. As with many other German movies, this has a very nice picture, great acting and a beautiful style. A story that make the watcher ask a lot of questions.

My rating: 8/10

Stake Land (2010)

This is a mix of The Road and I Am Legend. Great horror movie with few clichés.
The bad things about this movie are the lack of story why the country is swarming with vampires, and the ending is a bit weak. The super vampire is also a bit dumb.

My rating: 7,5/10

Jerichow (2008)

Directed by Christian Petzold, the man behindYella (2007) and Gespenster (2005), two German movies I also liked a lot. This has much of the same style; great acting, good cinematography, unexpected things that happen, and great script.

My rating: 8/10

13 Assassins (2010)
My rating: 9/10

Smukke mennesker (2009)

Kind of sick movie. Reminded me a little bit of Todd Solondz’ “Happiness”, only this was way better. Original, great acting, cinematography, script and an ending which made me feel real goosey.

My rating: 9/10

Mammuth (2010)

Funny, surprising, original, different,

My rating: 8,5/10

Hesher (2010)

Different, surprising. Great.

My rating: 8,5/10

Super (2010)

I usually don’t find movies too brutal, but I have to say this film had a bit too much violence in it. Maybe I felt it that way because of the recent horrible Utøya tragedy.
Anyway, the movie was funny, dark, different and surprising. I like Rainn Wilson, he is a great actor in this, in Hesher too, and I love him from The Office. Ellen Page who is playing the character’s sidekick, is really hot in this.

My rating: 8/10

Song of the Month: The Blue Angel Lounge - God

This psych rock band from Germany is really something. Just sit back og relax to this beautiful song from their debut album from 2009. I bought both their albums and are really satisfied. The music reminds me of bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the warlocks.

R, Der Rauber

R (2010)

A sad Danish prison movie about Rune who we don’t now anything about, fighting for his survival inside the bars.
I am fond of prison movies, and think this is good one. The acting is good, and the ambient sad soundtrack is suitable for this horrible movie. In some ways it is bit like “The Prophet”, I only wished this had some better ending.

My Rating: 8/10

Der Rauber / The Robber (2010)

So finally I got to see this Austrian movie about the marathon winning runner who also robs banks for the adrenalin of it.
The movie was great; very thrilling, very nice shot, moving and great acting.

My rating: 9/10
